Any reason for the relocation back to good ol’ sunny Yorkshire from the busy city of Manchester?

To complete my internship for the Wildlife trust. After this year working at the trust I think I will then relocate back to somewhere a bit more lively like Leeds or Manchester. But for now it’s nice to move home and have a little break from the big cities.

What is your current photographic work about?

My current projects are about animals and documenting our relationship with them. I have previously experimented with fashion photography; however, it is genre of documentary that I am always more drawn to.

Why are you drawn towards the genre of documentary, particularly when photographing animals? Are there any specific issues you want/wanted to expose through your images?

I like the way documentary photography is so real and honest. I chose to photograph the meat industry as I feel it is not often documented. Most people eat meat everyday without being aware of where it comes from and the processes behind it.

What’ve you discovered through documenting the relationship between humans and animals?

I would say It is more the lack of relationship that I was trying to exhibit.

What do you intend to do with these images? Is it an ongoing project? Have you ever exhibited or thought of exhibiting these images? Have you or would you ever make a publication from the series?

Yes I have exhibited them within my final year degree show at Manchester School of Art. I have also created some documentary zines since finishing university and these are now stocked in Magma Manchester and the hope is to get them published within other shops and galleries. I am also hoping to carry on with this project and a few other new projects that I have ideas for!

What got you interested into photography and taking images?

From a young age I had always found photography fascinating. I am particularly drawn to analogue photography and equipment, and now exclusively shoot on film. There’s something really special about the process of developing your own photographs and having a physical outcome rather than digital.

Who are you inspired by?

I am inspired by photographers such as Zed Nelson and Sergei Vasiliev but I would say my main inspiration is appreciating all the weird and wonderful creatures in the world.

What are your future aspirations?

I am starting a internship for Yorkshire Wildlife Trust in September and would love to combine my photography within that.

What advice would you recommend to young photographers today?

Don’t get disheartened when things go wrong. Just keep taking photos! Also shoot film!
